In order to draw a galaxy lets begin with diamond gradient again, with its corner down (set the cursor in the center of the canvas and while holding Shift drag the stretching upright down)...

1, We will use a simple object and create grooves in it. Make a selection as wide as you want your groove and 2 pixels high.
2, Now go to Image|adjust|levels. In the middle input box type 2.0, click OK. Now use the arrow keys to nudge your selection up one pixel...
Start with a new document , 312 pixel width and 245 pixel height with black background.
Create a new set from the layers menu and create a new layer inside the set...
Start with a new document , 400 pixel width and 200 pixel height with transparent background.
Fill the background with a matte color. I have chosen a background with following values:
R:0 G: 79 B: 168
Go to channels and create a new channel...
