Continuing on with the file browser...the new file browser in Photoshop CS has its own menu system.
When you go to the View menu you can choose the size of the thumbnail previews that are shown. This is much more visual than say an image name don't think think?
Choosing a small thumbnail does as such...
If you have Photoshop CS, try out the different
sizes. Here is the medium thumbnail size.
You can also choose to show details with will show more file information alongside the thumbnail. (hey, this is Basic Photoshop for a reason).
You also have the ability to use the new file browser as a lightbox. You can move files around to where you want them to be (in which case the Sort becomes Custom and will stay until you choose another sort method).

You can also right click on any file and get a whole slew of options (just like you can with each tool). You can choose to rotate the file in different directions here (or at the top with the swiveling arrows).
This will bring up this window:
Then you can open the file at the different angle. You can always undo this (and also in the Image: Rotate Canvas menu. It will display in the preview box if you have rotated a file.
Remember to select multiple files use the Ctrl or Cmd key.
You can view a file's metadata (everything you wanted and never wanted to know about a file). In the Bonus CD with Basic Photoshop training I go through how to change the metadata by creating your own templates, apply searchable keywords, add copyright information and more to many files.
You should be familiar with the file folders directory style of choosing files or folders. Select a folder and it will display the contents in the large display/chooser area on the right.
There is also an automate menu right within the file browser so you can easily select certain files and run an automation on them.
I teach automation and batching in the Basic Photoshop DVD training also. The sort menu just gives you different options on how to organize and display the folder contents/files.
