In this tutorial I will tell you about the basics of the interface in
Photoshop CS5. After this tutorial you should be able to easily
navigate around in Photoshop and at least have an idea of how to solve
simple problems. When typing the name of the tool I will do (Shortcut
key here). Shortcuts can be important to learn to improve your skills
and speed working in Photoshop.
Also this tutorial explains the tools a little superficial but don't
worry to much about it because you will get to use all the tools a lot
in the next tutorials.
But what are we waiting for, lets get started.
The
first tool in Photoshop is the Move Tool (V). This tool is for dragging
your objects around in your document. Guess I don't need to say much
more about this tool as it is pretty straight forward.
This
is the selection tool (M). Using this tool you will be able to make
selections of your objects which we will need very much in the next
tutorials.
The crop tool (C) is used for cropping your image.
The
brush tool (B) is a very important tool in Photoshop. To start drawing
simply select the tool and start painting on your scene.
The
eraser tool (E) is pretty straight forward to use. Selecting it and
start clicking on your scene, like you did with your brush, will erase
the content you've made.
Using
the Pen tool (P) is a little more advanced. This tool sets points to
where your guided line should be drawn. I personally kinda hate this
tool but it has a few interesting things. More about this later.
The text tool (T) is simply for creating text.
Shape
tool (U) is used to create squares with rounded corners, custom shapes
etc. This is a handy tool. I have used it a lot, specially for creating
buttons, text fields and stuff like that for web designs.
Navigating around in Photoshop is very easy. Photoshop has a pan function and a zoom function.
The
Hand tool (H) is for panning around on your scene. When having other
tool active you can also just push the Spacebar button and while holding
it down you can pan around as your like.
The
Zoom tool (Z) is for zooming in and out on your scene. You can also
hold down CTRL and then scroll up or down to zoom. Or you can press CTRL
and press "+" or "-".
This was the very basic of the main tools your at least need to have
some knowledge about. Next time we will be looking at pixels and
resolution when working in Photoshop.
