First you make a new image then you add the pic ( must be a cut out with no background). Then you make a copy. Select the copy in layers palette and go to filter menu> blur> motion blur and choose the settings angle: 90 and distance 15 px. again go to motion blur this time with an angle at 0 and distance at 15 px. At this time save the pds as burn1. Now go to the image menu> mode> grayscale> yes to flatten the image. Again image> mode> and this time choose indexed colors. Again image mode and now choose the color table and in the drop down menu you select Black Body. Do you have some kind of burning colors now? you should have but don't worry we are not done yet..
Open the pic out cut you used to begin with and paste it on to the image we are working with ( first you have to change the burning guy in to rgb colors again go to image> mode> rgb color) Paste the cutout in to the image with the burning guy and place it right in the middle so they fit together ( remember to select the moving tool to move the outcut around).
Select outcut in the layers palette and then select transform ( ctrl + t ) Go up above in the bar right below the menu bar with : files edit image ... and link W to H. Now resize the cutout just for about 6 px so that you can begin to see the yellow color behind. Yeaa now we are going crazy with the smudge tool. Go to the layers palette and select the background pic ..( the one with the burning colors) then go to the tool bar and select smudge tool with a brush size at 13 px but not the first nr 13 you would choose the nr2 13 that's a bit diffused :) lost ? hope not... choose the strength to be at 70%.
Hang in there, now we are gonna' add the flames: just go to the image and begin with the smudge tool( tip: go up cause flame tend to rise )( tip nr2: at some point choose a smaller size brush like a nr 5 px to create some different effect). don't smudge the face to much
Done with the smudge tool? good :D
Select the burning pic in the layer palette and go to layer menu and duplicate it. Place the new copy on top in the layer palette , it should be on top of the "clean outcut"
Set the blending mode to overlay. then you select the clean outcut and change the opacity to about 70% ...That's all you are done but try to experiment with some effect and get a great burning guy :D
