This tutorial is made for Photoshop 7 for advanced users but it also can be done in 6. There might be some small changes in steps though. This is also a visual guide and not a real tutorial. The reason for this is simple. It would take too long to do. You can also see the final result in my gallery.
First of all, the camera is much bigger than you see here. This is so you can work better with the details. And remember that this is a guide and a kick in the right direction. I'm not showing you how I did every little thing. The language causes some trouble for me but I hope that you can follow it thru. This tutorial have a lot of layers, so to make it easier you better use Layer Sets. One for the objective, display etc. It's under Layer>>New>>Layer Set .
Instead of telling how to write the camera I have a picture for you to see. This is a pic with the camera in the actual size. You can see how it looks like. Don't forget that it looks like this so you can see how the different parts looks like. The underlying layers doesn't end exactly where the overlaying layer starts. They overlap each other. The different colors doesn't matter because we are going to use color overlay and gradient overlay on almost everything. One thing though, if you don't know how to make chrome and how to create new gradient it would be better if you learn how to do that first.
Above you can see my Gradient Overlay. The one on the left is for the top part. As you can see the opacity is lower, therefore you need to have the same color on the top part. I have used the gradient on the right for the other four parts. Play around with the angel on the different parts. I used opposite angels for the left and the right parts.
The next step is to use an Adjustment layer to curve it up a bit. Ctrl-click on your watch layer to load the transparency and make an adjustment layer (Curves). The advantages with using adjustment layers are that you can always go back and change your settings. As you can see (above to the left) there are some other colors than greytones. You don't want that, therefore you can make another adjustment layer. This time Hue/Saturation. Drag the saturation to the left.
Ok, time for the next part.
First of all, the four little contacts is just a gradient overlay (white-lightgrey-white-lightgrey), angle=135. The dark grey top part has four layer styles:
The grey bottom part has the same layer styles as the dark grey top part.
The two black parts have gradient overlay that you can see here.
These two parts are made of gradient overlay. I think you can figure them out by yourself.
