Step 1 - Create Your Document and First Layer

Create a new document, mine is 500x500 and I used #000000(black) as my background color because I'll be using light effects and they show up better against the darker background but you can use what ever color you are comfortable with. First make a layer and give it any name, then select the "MARQUEE" tool and make sure its the "Circle/Elliptical" one. Now create a small circle on your document and fill it with "#8CD9FA".

Step 2 - Inner Shadow

We're going to add a layer style to it now. To do so, navigate up to the top bar and click "Layer>Layer Style>Inner shadow". Make your settings match mine shown in this screenshot.

Step 3 - Satin Effect

Now that your inner shadow is applied, we are going to add a Satin effect. To do this, stay in the same layer style window, and on the left click the Satin box. Now make your Satin settings match mine shown here.

Step 4 - Bottom Half Done

You are now done creating the bottom part of your thermometer. You should have something that looks like this, if you don't you have made a mistake somewhere.

Step 5 - Create The Neck

Make a new layer and select the "Rounded Rectangle Tool" on the left. In the top toolbar set the "Radius" to "15". Now draw the rectangle downwards making a long rectangle on top of the circle and fill it with "#8CD9FA". It should create the neck of your thermometer like this.

Step 6 - Copy Layer Styles

Now right click on your first layer with the thermometer base in it, and click "Copy Layer Style". Click back on the most recent layer with the long part and right click on it, then click "Paste Layer Style". This will copy the Satin and Inner Shadow effect we applied to our new layer.

Step 7 - The Scale

Create a new layer and select your pencil tool. Set it to 2px and foreground color #000000 (Black). Begin adding 1 long line on the bottom and then 1px above that add 3 shorter lines above that. These will be the readings on your thermometer. Continue this process until you come up with results similar to mine.

Step 8 - Temperature Reading

Create another new layer and on the left add your numbers 0 though 10 and 3 short lines (-) after then looking like this. These numbers represent the temperature reading on your thermometer.

Step 9 - Your Done!

Your thermometer is now done! If you wish to, you can add the red which tells the temperature and as you can see I've added the "F" to the top and some "Ice" on bottom. Hope you had fun!
