1. Start off by adding a new layer, call it main shape. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool and make a selection. Then use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to delete the top parts of the floppy disk. Using guides will make it easier to get the right shape.
When you are satisfied with the shape you can add some texture to the floppydisk. Go to Filters> Noise > Add Noise and set the amound to 13% and the Distribution to Uniform. Check for Monichromatic.
2. Next it's time to make the inset of the disk. Add a new layer and call it inset. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool and make a selection simular to the one shown in the image on the right, and fill it with black. Ctrl + Click on the main shape layer and inverse the selection (Ctrl + Shift +I). Hit the delete key.
Again make the lower corners round.
3. When the shape of the first inset is finished then Doble Click on the inset layer, choose Bevel and Emboss and use these settings:
Style: Inner Bevel
Depth: 1%
Direction: down
Size: 0 px
Soft: 0 px
Angle: 34
Altitude: 20
Uncheck Global Light
Do the same with the lower part of floppydisk. Only change the angle of the Bevel and Emboss to -34. Add some noise to both insets. Filters > Noise > Add Noise and set the amound to 13% and the Distribution to Uniform. Check for Monichromatic.
4. Now its time to add the metal part of the disk.
Add a new layer and call it metal. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool and make a selection a bit smaller that the upper inset part of the disk. Fill the selection with a light grey colour (#cccccc), deselect. Make a new selection inside the gray and hit the delete key.
I've also added two other insets to the disk (red arrows). One on the lower left end and an arrow on the upper left end of the disk. Use the same settings as shown abowe.
5. We would like to make it a little bit more shiny to get the right metal feel of it.
Go to Filter > Rander > Lighting Effects and enter these settings:
Lihgt type: Spotlight
Intensity: 21
Focus: 71
Gloss: -50
Material: 69
Exposure: 0
Ambience: 8
