1. Open Photoshop, create a new document, any size doesnt matter, make it big enough though.
2. Start off by making a new layer and grabbing the Rectangular Marque Tool. Make a selection like below:
Oh paint your background canvas to a nice light brown #D5D2CA. Fill the selection in with #AAA9A5.
3. Right click the dark square layer we just created and go to Blending Options and set these settings:
Now we got something like this:
Set the layers Opacity to around 50%-60%.
4. With the Rectangle Marque Tool again we want to make another new layer and also another new selection within the layer we just made like so:
Add these Blending Options to get the inner shadow and stroke:
5. Now we get to use the eraser. Go to your drop down menu of eraser brushes. It is best to use the ones that are dotty. For example here are a few that I will be using:
Ok make sure you got the first square layer we made selected before erasing around the edges. Try using the erase tool by click on the edges ones or twice or try dragging and etching the brush in.
Do some more final touches:
Ok now we go the main background done for our content table lets move onto the content headers and threads.
6. Duplicate the first layer we made, drag the layer to the top in the Layers Palette. Go to Edit>Free Transform and resize it so it fits in the darker square like below:
Not liking the darker square box? Now is the time to edit it. Select the layer and your Eraser. Use your brushes and etch the corners in it aswell like this:
7. Time to make the content header graphic now. This is what breaks the contents in a page. Make yet another new layer. Make a small rectangle and fill it in with white like below:
Apply a drop shadow to the layer:
Now we want to make the layer fade into the other graphics behind it. We do this by lowering the Fill. Here is a screenshot to show you what I am talking about:
8. Ok now once again we get to use the Eraser tool. Erase around the content breaker bar we just created:
9. Ok its done, you can stop now or if you want you can darken the edges by duplicating the layers and changing the layers Blending Mode to Multiply or Darken:
