Open a new document by going to File, New...
Name your new document and make sure it is 300dpi, and RGB color, for now.
Do a line drawing of your Monster mascot and open it in Photoshop.
Select the Move tool from the Tools Menu
. Ctrl+S to Save.
Grab your drawing with the Move tool and drag it over to your new logo document. Place the mascot on the left hand side, to leave room for the letters.
Reduce the Opacity, in the Layers Menu, to about 40%.
Create a New Layer on top of the Background Layer.
Select the Pen tool
. Ctrl+S to Save.
Trace and redraw your monster mascot. To make it look clean and crisp.
Select the Direct Selection tool to play around with the anchors on the new shape that you have drawn.
Go to Layer, Layer Style, and add a black Stroke to your new shape.
Make a new layer on top of the background layer again. Choose the Pen tool again, and a new color for the ear, then draw the ear as well.
Go to Layer, Layer Style, and add a black Stroke to your new shape, same as step 10.
Also, draw a black wrinkle with the Pen tool. This will automatically create an extra layer or two, depending on how many shapes you connect. Ctrl+S to Save.
Create new layers for the horns and the rest of the features. Change your colours, as needed, and place in the features and shapes.
Make sure that the eyes, nose are on top of the head layer.
For the pupils, mouth, and eye brows, let's make a new layer and call it 'extra features,' and use the Polygonal Lasso tool. And trace/draw them in.
Use the Elliptical Marquee tool to make the pupils. Hold down the Shift key to select multiple areas. Make sure you have Black as the foreground color of your color picker. Then, once you have all the areas highlighted, go to Edit, Fill..., and choose Foreground Color. Click OK.
Add a new layer, and use the Polygonal Lasso tool, and the color picker, to choose and add shadows to the head.
You should see highlighted lines when things are selected. Then click Edit, Fill..., to fill the selected area with the color you have chosen. Ctrl+S to Save.
Hide the top layer with the drawing, by clicking on the eye symbol in the layers menu.
Now you see your monster mascot, without the drawing on top.
Now we add the text beside it. Choose the Text tool, from the Tools menu, and place the cursor beside your monster mascot head.
Type Monster Mascot. Choose an appropriate font from the Character window. I chose Munster Bash.
Also, highlight the text, by double clicking on the layer, and then click on the color box in the Character window to change the color so it matched the head.
And that is it!!!
Ctrl+S to Save.
Thanks and until next time!
