1. Create a new document, make it 300px wide and 400px tall with a temporary white background, we'll spice it up at the end. Ccreate a new layer (ctrl+shift+n), select the rectangular marquee tool and make a selection of roughly 200 x 320px. With the selection still active: select > modify > smooth and enter an amount between 10 and 14. then fill the selection with white (#ffffff)
2. Go to layer > layer style > blending options and apply the following settings
3. Create a new layer and make a selection with the rectangular marquee tool of approximately 140x100px. Smooth the selection with select > modify > smooth and enter an amount of 8. Fill the selection with #dddddd, go to layer > layer style > blending options and apply the following settings
4. The basics are done, time for some details. download and install the font chicago, you might have to restart photoshop, don't forget to save your ipod!
Type ipod and add a line underneath it with the line tool. hold on, stretch those fingers and recreate the menu as shown below
5. Now for apple's famous clickwheel: create a new layer and make a selection with the elliptical marquee tool (hold down shift)
Tip: create two guides and use these to determin the width of the circle
Fill your circle with #dddddd and draw another circle on a new layer, make it white
6. Get your type tool, chose the font Arial and type menu. Add it to the clickwheel. Again you can use guides to help align your text
Now switch to the font webdings. yes, you finally found a use for it. Type "9" for the back button. Copy this layer and go to edit > transform > flip horizontal. This will be your forward button. Type 4 followed by a semicolon (4;) for the play/pause button. You migt want to bring the letter spacing down
7. Add an icon of your choice to the upper left corner of your ipod display
8. Now for the battery icon: create a small rectangle and while holding shift, add the little top of the battery. Stroke it with a 1px black line. Battery indicator: draw another rectangle inside the battery icon and fill it with black
9. Congratulations, you made it this far. Final step: draw on a new layer a rectangle, fill it with this color: #7c7c7c you'll have to change the color of the text to white offcourse
and as promised at the beginning of this tutorial, you can change the background color to one of those funky apple colors from the ads:
| blue | #1379f9 |
| green | #9fcc39 |
| orange | #f59110 |
| pink | #eb5297 |
| purple | #9369bf |
