Create a New Image 500 to 500 Pixel and make a sweet background of your choice
Make a new layer(Name this layer ball). Press M and make a selection by holding down shift using the elliptical marquee tool.
Press G and and take the radial gradient tool. Apply the Gradient from the center to the top. Watch the pic on the right.
Now open the texture that I made out of my appartment.
Press V for the move tool and pull it in your magic ball window.
After that scale it like you prefer (edit-transform-scale)
Now chose your ball-layer. Click on it while holding down CTRL. So you make the round selection of the ball.
Go back to your texture-layer.
Inverse the selection(select-inverse) and delete it. Now go to filter-distort- and spherice it with about 80. Select-Inverse and delete the stuff we don't want to see.
Now the funny part comes. By changing the Blending Modes (Overlay, Color Dodge and so on) you reach awesome results.
The last step is pressing CTRL L to edit the Levels of your image
Well done, you are ready. Isn't it simple. Be creative! For example copy other elements like on the right in your Image. So you will get nice results. Have fun.
