Music Player Vector

This tutorial will show you how to create a realistic music player in Adobe Photoshop. I based my music player on a Microsoft Zune, which I found on Google Image Search.

First off we need to find a good image of your subject. So use Google Image search or similar. Copy and Paste the image in Photoshop. To do this, copy the image as normal, then open Photoshop, click File> New and OK. Photoshop will auto-detect the size of your image so you don't need to worry about dimensions e.t.c.

For this tutorial we will be using the pen tool a lot, so make sure you are confident with it, and how to use it effectively.

With the following settings

Start by setting your foreground colour to # 4c4d51 With the Pen tool, click on the top left corner (shown at 1) then move to point 2, moving to point 3. Repeat this process around the black area of the player

image 4

Repeat that process around the whole player. Till you get something like this.

image 6

On the layers palette, uncheck the small 'eye' icon as shown here

Your vector layer will disappear, but is still there.

image 7

Lets Create the inner screen surround. I used #cac1c2 as the main colour, and the same technique with the pen tool to create this shape. (I have ticked the shape layers, so they are visible once more.

image 8

Don't worry just yet about the play-control button and surround for that. We will mask it shortly.

Create a circle over the top of the player control surround, like this

image 9

Then Create a vector to make those small rounded corners.

image 10

Set them all to visible again. Check to make sure it looks smooth, and there are no scrappy or messy edges.

Here's what I got after that

image 11

Here are how my layers are set out too, so that everything displays correctly. I have named them so you can differentiate between them. To move a layer, simply click and drag it to its new position. The layer closest to the top of the layers palette is at the top, with ones below that been represented by the layer pallet going down in order.

image 12

Create a black circle for the play button.

image 13

Add a shape that go between the actual screen and its surround. I chose #9fa1b0.

image 14

Now lets add the screen itself, mines in flat black, which is #000000

image 15

Set your foreground colour and background colour like so

image 16

And right click (on the layers palette) the background shape you made (in step 4) and click Blending Options. Apply these settings

image 17

image 18

Now we have this

image 19

Lets make the play-button nice and real looking. Change your foreground colour to #77787e

image 20

And Click OK. We should have something like this.

image 21

Create another circle in the middle of this one, with these settings

image 22

And you'll have something like this

image 23

Set your foreground colour to #bfb9bd and your background to #332d39. Now in the layers palette, select the 3 shapes that make up the creamy coloured surround. You can do this by CTRL and Clicking each layer. Make all other layers invisible. And right click the top layer of the 3, and select Merge Layers.

This will make these 3 images into 1.

Apply these settings to your new shape

image 24

image 25

image 26

Click OK.

Apply these settings to the layer that is behind your screen.

image 27

Add 2 small circles either side of the large button in the center

image 28

And Add a fast forward and a rewind arrow

image 29

Lets make the screen look shiny and real.

Create a new layer above the screen layer.

Make a selection like this

image 30

Then use the gradient tool, with white set as your foreground.

With these settings

image 32

Add shine with the gradient tool

image 33

And that is the basic item finished.

I went on to add a band logo, some text and make it look as though the item is turned on. Then I added a cool shiny background with gradients
