Shiny Text Effect

Step 1:
Start by filling the Background with the "Shine_BG" gradient fill provided in the preset at the Resources section of this tutorial, or you can create your own using the colors #c8a445 and #534215. Chose the "Radial Gradient", and start from the center of the Background to one of the corners of the document.
You can modify the Background color using "Levels" and/or "Hue and Saturation" options if you want brighter or more vibrant Background.

Step 2:
Create the text you want to apply this tutorial on, in this tutorial, the font used is "Tw Cen MT Condensed", the size is (50 px), and the color is #d5b900. The text layer name should be the same as its content, in this case, "Shine".

Step 3:
Double click on the "Shine" text layer, and type in the following values, you might need to adjust or change the values if the size of your text is much bigger or much smaller than the one in the tutorial.

- Start by applying a "Drop Shadow" effect, you need to change the color to #928505.

image 3

- Add an "Inner Shadow" using the color #f0ebc5, change the "Blend Mode" to "Overlay", and change the contour to "Half Round".

image 4

- Then, add a "Bevel and Emboss" effect, change the "Size" value to (9), and the "Soften" value to (3), change the "Gloss Contour" to "Notched Slope - Rounded", and finally, change the "Shadow Mode" to "Overlay" with the color #d5b900.

image 5

- We are going to apply a "Satin" effect to add more depth to the text. Change the "Blend Mode" to "Screen", the color to #f5ca2d, and change the "Contour" to "Cove - Deep".

image 6

- The last effect we will apply is the "Gradient Overlay", so change the "Belnd Mode" to "Soft Light", and go ahead and click on the "Gradient" colors box, this will open the "Gradient Editor", you can load the gradient preset available in the "Resources" section at the beginning of this tutorial, or just create the gradient by typing the color values #952e2f and #ffffff.

Step 4:
Next, we need to make a selection of the text we have. So press the Ctrl key, and while you are still pressing it, right-click on the icon of the "Shine" layer, (when the cursor is over the icon, you will notice that it will change its shape to a pointing hand with a dashed-square-selection shape in front of it). Now, a selection that has the exact shape of the text is created.

Step 5:
Create a new layer BELOW the "Shine" text layer, and rename it to "Light". Go to "Select" menu - Modify - Expand, and type the value (6), this will expand the current selection 6 pixels. Make sure you are on the "Light" layer, and fill the expanded selection with the color #f0ebc5. After you fill the selection, go to Select menu - Deselect (or press Ctrl + D) to get rid of the selection.

image 9

Step 6:
Go to Filter menu - Blur - Motion Blur, apply a vertical motion blur, type (90) for the "Angle" value, and (20) for the "Distance" value.

image 10

Go back to Filter menu - Blur - Motion Blur, but this time apply a horizontal motion blur, so just change the "Angle" value to (0).

image 11

Step 6:
Finally, Change the Blending Mode for the "Light" layer to Vivid Light.

Step 6:
If you still feel you need to add more blur to the "Light" layer, you can go to Filter menu - Blur - this time Gaussian Blur, and type (5) for the "Radius" value.

And that's it, we're done!
Hope you had fun creating your own "Shiny" text!
