1. Begin your Metallic Button by creating a new image from scratch. It is best to have your width very high while the height is low. A 200x100 pixel canvas (default 72 resolution) with a gray (#999999) background will do fine.
2. Create a new layer in this image. This new layer will be used for the Metallic Button, so click on the Rectangle tool, with the option to Fill the object with Pixels at the top of Photoshop. White (#FFFFFF) as your color would be the best choice for this tutorial. Create a shape similar to mine below.

3. Right click on the new layer and open up the Blending Options and select Gradient Overlay.
4. In the Gradient Overlay options, leave the Black to White Gradient and lower the Opacity down to approximately 40%. This will calm down the Gradient much more. Follow this up by selecting the Reverse check box.
5. Next, go back into the Blending Options, and then select Bevel and Emboss. Drop the Size down to 2, like below, and you're done with that.
6. Now that you have placed an Inner Bevel on the button, go ahead and add a Black Stroke to the button. Default settings are perfectly fine. You are now done, place text on it if you would like.
