1. Open up a 500x500 white document
2. Create a new layer and select the "Rectangular Marquee Tool"
Now create a square with the Rectangular Marquee Tool. ( Hold SHIFT for a perfect square )
So now you have a perfect square.
3. Now fill the square with any color, I chose "#D98D2B" ( CTRL + BACKSPACE to fill the square with a color )
4. Select -> Modify -> Smooth - A window should pop asking for the Sample Radius Pixels - Choose 20 Pixels
Once you have done that, press the delete key and it should delete most of the square leaving four edges. ( Do not deselected the marquee! )
5. Create a new layer and go to Select -> Modify -> Expand - Choose 5 Pixels
Now choose another color for this box, I chose "#F19620"
When you have chosen a color, hit CTRL + BACKSPACE to fill in the background ( Make sure the color you have chosen is the background color )
6. Now CTRL + CLICK on " Layer 2 " on the layers panel and go to Select -> Modify -> Contrast - Choose 20 pixels.
Now you should have a marquee box in the middle of your logo, create a new layer and a new color, I chose "#F7891D"
Make sure the color you just picked is your background color ( Press 'X' to change between your foreground to background ) and CTRL + BACKSPACE to fill in the space
7. Now its pretty much repeating the steps over and over, CTRL + CLICK on " Layer 3 " ( The layer you just created ) and go to Select -> Modify -> Smooth - And choose 40 pixels this time.
When you have selected 40 pixels, a different marquee should appear in the middle of your logo, set white as your background color and press CTRL + BACKSPACE
8. CTRL + click on on the layer you just created and then go to Select -> Modify -> Contract and choose 10 pixels this time. Pick another background color, I picked "#FF7E00"
9. You can repeat the steps one by one and changing the pixels around for better results
With some transforming and rotating around, this is what I came up with.
Here's another example of this tutorial - I spent more time on this one, I changed the pixels and rotated it a bit.
