Now grunge is not so popular, but it is still interesting. Grunge style is a protest to glamor style and ideal unreal beauty. This style became popular after wide distribution of the style Web 2.0. As we already know, Web 2.0 is characterized by smooth gradients, accurate shadows and unnatural glare. Grunge is an opposite of web 2.0. Dirty, unkempt, defiant... it is all about grunge. This style gives the opportunity to stand out among the bright, but uniform mass of neat sites. Many Grunge sites tend to be retro, but they are particularly negligent and have greater freedom.
Let's see how to make a grunge style.
Color and texture
Muted colors, grayish, beige, green and brown. Very often bright colors are replaced with more natural - maroon, dark-orange. In all sites there is a grungy texture - dirty walls, bumps, scrapes, old paper, etc. Dirty textures and background images are almost essential in every grunge design

Irregular lines and frames
I have found for you a cool example where irregular lines are used. Loworks-store.org is a cool Flash site designed in grunge style.
Usually sites in grunge styles contain paper- and photo clips, needles and various pins:
Very often coffee rings, spilled out liquids and dirty stains are added into design
Example:
Coffee Stains Photoshop Brush
One more feature of the style - torn paper and dirty edges
Old stained paper with torn dirty
Also you may add some hand-written elements

Grunge is a stylish design trend that makes web design less uniformed, less structured, and more organic.
