Principles Of Minimalist Web Design

Minimalism - Less is More

Sometimes it is a very hard task to determine the style in which the site was made. So I decided to help you with it and to write a series of articles on this topic. I will tell you about main styles in web design and will describe the characteristic features.

There are many ways of classifying styles: by content, by color, by perception and so on. I'll try to cover as many styles as possible and to tell you about them.

Let's start with the minimalism style in design. Minimalism could be found in art, architecture, fashion, literature, ect. And of course in web design. Minimalism has been a popular website design style for years. It has so many benefits: minimalist sites load faster, take fewer server resources, and are often faster to develop than more graphically complicated designs. Plus, they make a professional, clean impression on visitors. Every day the fan club of minimalism becomes bigger and bigger.

Minimalism is a design style presented in its simplest form, without any unnecessary elements, an abundance of colors, shapes and textures. The purpose of minimalism is the desire to get rid of all superfluous elements and to edit design with maximum functionality. Visually minimalist design should convey to the user the basic idea of the site, create a peaceful atmosphere, but it should not create a feeling of unfinished work and emptiness.

Sometimes SEOs are having a hard time working with minimal style websites because of the lack of space that they have Therefore adding specifically extra SEO text that is useless for the user is hardly ever possible in such cases.

Minimize the content

In webdesign a minimalist site is stripped naked of eye candy and fancy colours or effects, leaving the underlying structure exposed. The key to a beautiful minimalist site is a solid and structured layout, as well as focus on stylish and well designed typography.

Simplify the design

In the minimalist design every detail is of a great importance. Color accents, shapes, lines, unusual grid site - all these creates a unique design. Minimalism easy, simple but not primitive. The following aspects will be useful for us in the process of such design creation : interesting typography, a lot of empty space (!!!), black and white, smooth animation, balance and alignment of objects, the contrast.

Sometimes, simplicity is difficult for mastering. It is necessary to get rid of the desire to pave the empty space, no matter with what elements, the main thing that it should be free. There should not be "add something" moments, but "something away" ones. This kind of design doesn't have to be boring. In fact, a proper usage of white space gives site a certain degree of sophistication that is often lacking on sites that have every little space crammed with something.
