Making Reflections in SWiSH

Author: Rob Wells More by this author

In this tutorial we will be making a simple reflection with text, your finished piece should look similar to this:

1. Open SWiSH and create a block of text roughly the same size and color (this will make the tut easier).

2. Copy and paste the block of text once.

Move it so its positioned under the first block.

3. Right click on the copied block of text.

In the menu that appears select 'transform' and then select 'flip vertical' from the menu that opens.

You should now be faced with something like this:

4. Move the 'upside down' block of text so the letter points just touch, example:

5. Using the resize tool squash the 'upside down' block of text a little, this will help with the effect.

You should now see something like this:

6. Right click on the 'upside down' block of text and select 'grouping' from the menu that appears.

Then select 'Group as Shape' from the menu that appears.

Now you have the ability to add a gradient to the text.

7. At the moment you will have a solid fill.

From the 'fill' menu select 'linear gradient'.

The text will now appear something like this:

We now need to change the direction of the gradient fill but first lets edit the colors.

8. Your linear gradient tool bar should look something like this:

image 5

Set the left-hand color to the color of the main block of text.

Set the right-hand color to 0% White.

9. Make sure you still have the 'upside down' block of text selected.

Click the 'Fill Transform'' button on the 'layout' toolbar ( image 6 ).

10. The red dots surrounding the text will be replaced by blue ones.

Now resize and rotate the gradient-fill until you are left with something like this:

That's it!

Just fine-touch it and perhaps group the two text blocks to keep your workspace tidy.

Enjoy!
