Sheriff's Badge

1. First create a new document then make a background that will suit the badge, I used an old wood texture I found on deviantART.

2. Find and get out the Custom Shape Tool.

Then change your settings to the following:

Now find and select the Sheriff's Badge shape in the custom shapes area.

First create a new layer, then change your foreground color to a dull yellow color (#bc982c) then draw the badge onto the canvas.

Note: Hold shift to draw a perfect shape

3. Go into the blending options for the badge layer, then apply the following layer styles:

You should be left with a result as so:

4. Hold ctrl and click the main badge layer's thumbnail.

Contract the selection by about 4 pixels Select > Modify > Contract then create a new layer.

On the new layer, draw a white gradient from the top left to the middle area, then the bottom right to the middle area.

Now change the layer mode for this gradient layer to Overlay.

5. Now you can merge the layers together.

After you merged the layers together apply the following layer styles:

6. Lastly you just need to add some indented looking text. The best I could come up with was this:

To achieve text that looks like mine, write out the text in black, then apply the following layer styles:

Now you should be left with text like mine.

Now you can finish this off you can apply a nice lighting effect, and maybe sharpen.
