Select the gradient tool. Then select this gradient(1) like in the pic
below. It should be a default.

Step 2:
Place the gradient at an angle in your
background like below.

Step 3:
Then go to, Filter>Noise>Add Noise
and place setting like in the pic below.

Step 4:
The go to, Filter>Blur>Motion Blur,
and place setting like in the
pic below.

Step 5:
Then go to, Image>Adjust>Desaturate.

Step
6(Optional):
Lastly, if you want a tad bit of color
to this texture. Go to
Image>Adjust>Hue & Saturation
and place what ever color you
want. Check the Colorize box. Just make
sure to have saturation below
14 for a better looking texture.
This is what I came up with:

If you notice the egdes, their is some residue left from the motion blur filter. If you want to remove that just Right-click the image and go to Transformation and enlarge the sides by about 10%.
This
is by far my favorite way of making metal
textures. And can make a good background
on lots of stuff. Remember that since
you're making many of these with gradients
and such, that means you can add your own
changes. Place them at different angles
or lengths, or even different gradients.
And don't just make the textures all the
same. Choose different techniques so everything
doesn't look the same. Enjoy!!
