Rareview
Jan 17, 2012
The design is very clean, and just a basic, vertically scrolling site. It's a timeless design that doesn't instigate any popular trends, which means there's no need to keep updating or redesigning the site as trends rise and fall.

Mauricio Guimaraes Portfolio

Mauricio portfolio is a good example of creativity. Instead of the ordinary menu, he uses a kind of parallax movieclip, where the user must interact with the stage to explore the site.

Code Slingers
Jan 12, 2012
Code Slingers only has two sections, home and about. But they utilize parallax scrolling to give the page heaps of character. I'm also a fan of sites that utilize the header to put color in to a site and set the tone, then have the bottom of the header image set a single color background for the rest of the site.

HatBox

HatBox is another excellent webpage and I especially like that it's responsive without any loss of content. I really admired how they opted for a creative icon tab navigation for their portfolio where I feel most companies would have gone with an image slider.

Go To China

If you drag, shrink, pull, push and widen this page you will notice that the background image not only continuously fills your browser window, but it's also keeping the image in scale. Meaning the image is not a fixed size where someone who has their screen resolution set to 800x600 will miss the majority of the image, where as someone who has their monitor set to 1440x900 is able to see most of it. This site is able to achieve the effect thanks to the "cover" attribute for background-size in CSS3.

Fandango Media Group
Jan 10, 2012
Fandango Media Group utilizes a very basic CSS fixed background trick to add heaps of character to how the content flows on the page. It's not much, but it certainly gives navigating the page an edge over most other vertically scrolling sites or pages.

This welcome area uses a retro look to help draw in users. The typography is varied, but comes together well as part of a great piece of imagery to headline the site. The copy has a nice personal touch as the webmaster states 'I'm here to help you get there'. Color is uses sparingly, but red is used to emphasize key words.

great example of effective typography in a welcome area. Not only is the welcome type large and eye catching, but it impacts upon the surrounding environment. In this case we see the word 'NOISE' actually cracking the surface that it rests on, which creates a much more real environment for visitors. The lens flare effect and metallic sheen also draw the eye.

This welcome area uses photography to enhance the message within the copy. 'Beautiful & Elegant' describes their designs, but is also depicted by the beautiful, elegant butterfly to the right of the welcome text. When you hover over the butterfly image a magnified circle pops up, providing an interactive element to the welcome area, which helps maintain people's interest.
