3D Text


1. Make a new image large enough to fit the text that you want to make 3D. I think a retro style type face looks best with this effect.

2. Right click on your text layer in the layers window and goto blending options. Then in the layer style window that opens (keep this window open until the end of the tutorial) tick the Drop Shadow option. Set the colour to a darker shade of the text colour. Set up the other variables on the drop shadow screen to:

  • Angle : -160
  • Spread : 100%
  • Distance : 8px
  • Size : 10px

3. Still in the layer style window, turn on stroke. Make the colour of the stroke a lighter shade than the text colour. Set the size to 3px

Finished, this is a funky effect that can look really great on most fonts. Looks good on retro style titles.
