Focusing: Sharpen Image (Video Included)


1. Open your image.

2. Duplicate Background layer [Ctrl+J] image 1

3. Open Unsharp Mask dialog (Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask).

4. In the dialog box, move the Amount and Radius (sharpening range) sliders to get the best possible result.
Then use the Threshold slider to reduce the noise.

5. You can reduce the Unsharp Mask effect by using Fade command [Shift+Ctrl+F] or, by changing opacity of Layer 1 in the Layers palette as it is shown in the movie.

6. Sharpening filters may cause such side-effects as noise, border stripes, etc. You can heal minor areas manually with Blur image 2 Tool (view animation on the next page), History Brush or Eraser Focusing: Sharpen Image (Video Included) Tool (movie).
