This tutorial will show you how to create flames of eternal damnation! Goes great in a signature, or as a background. This is a true filter whore tutorial. Not much skill is required.
First, start off with a blank canvas of 400 x 400, then draw some lens flares like these. (Filter > Render > Lens Flare)

Next, apply the chrome filter to these lens flares. (Filter > Sketch > Chrome) Set the detail to 10 and smoothness to 1.

Now distort your image with the wave filter. (Filter > Distort > Wave) Duplicate the layer once and do the wave again. (Right Click Layer > Duplicate Layer) (Filter > Distort > Wave)
Set your new layer to "Lighten" mode, then merge the two layers. Do this by first linking the layers with the empty boxes next to the thumbnails, then merge linked. (Layer > Merge Linked)

Duplicate this layer yet another 3 times so that you have a total of four. (Right Click Layer > Duplicate Layer) Rotate each new layer 90, 180, and 270 degrees so that they are all four in different directions. (Edit > Transform > Rotate)
Set all the upper layers to "Lighten" mode and merge them all again. (Link, then merge linked)
Now your doom flames are starting to take shape!

Now add color with the Hue/Saturation adjustment (Image > Adjust > Hue/Saturation) Check Colorize and adjust to your liking! The image I have here is cropped to just the top half, and I added in some scan lines.
