How to Create a dazzling universe in Photoshop

In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial, we're going to learn how to use Photoshop tools to create a awesome universe. It's not that simple, but you will learn alot of tools and tricks and looks very good in the end.

Step 1

Create a new document with size 500x500. Double click on foreground color in toolbar and choose a foreground color with setting as shown below. The color code for foreground color is "#013565".

In the layer panel, create a new layer and fill it with the foreground color using "Paint Bucket Tool".

Using Gradient tool in the toolbar, create a color gradient using following settings and apply it on 'Layer 1'.

You will get following result after gradient is applied.

Create a new layer as 'Layer 2' and apply 'clouds' filter to it as shown in image. After applying filter Layer 2 will look like this.

Now give the 'Liquify' effect to 'Layer 2' using 'Twirl Clockwise Tool', as shown in the image.

After applying 'Liquify' filter, 'Layer 2' will look like following image.

Now set the layer style of 'Layer 2' to 'Overlay' as shown in the below image.

Step 5

In this step we will be creating a Planet for our universe. For this create one more layer, named 'Layer 3'. Click on Gradient tool in toolbar and choose 'Radial gradient' as shown in the image. Keep the gradient setting as white towards transparent color. Now in the canvas using gradient tool, drag a little bit towards outwards. Your planet shape is ready as shown in the following image.

Set layer style of this layer to 'Overlay', as shown in the image.

Create a circle in a new layer, 'Layer 4' and fill it with black color.

Right click on 'Layer 4' and choose blending option. Apply 'Gradient Overlay' effect as shown in following image.

After applying Gradient overlay, you will get following result.

Select the layer 4 by holding down 'CTRL' key and create a new layer, name it as 'Layer 5'. Apply 'Clouds' filter to this layer as shown in the following image.

After that set the layer style to 'Overlay'.

Duplicate 'Layer 4' by right clicking on it. In layer panel move the duplicate layer 'Layer 4 copy' below 'Layer 4'. Now change the 'Outer Glow' color of 'Layer 4' using blending option. Keep the settings as shown in the below image.

Result will look like this.

Once again duplicate Layer 4. In layer panel move the duplicate layer 'Layer 4 copy 2' below 'Layer 4'. Now change the 'Outer Glow' color of 'Layer 4' using blending option. Keep the settings as shown in below image.

Once again duplicate Layer 4. In layer panel move the duplicate layer 'Layer 4 copy 3' below 'Layer 4'. Now change the 'Outer Glow' color of 'Layer 4' using blending option as shown in the following image.

Now, In layer panel create a new layer and name it as 'Layer 6'. Draw a circle using 'Marquee tool'.

Right click on Layer 6 and apply the following blending option setting.

After that set the layer style to 'Dissolve'.

Set the opacity 10% and fill to 0%.

Create a new layer, name it as 'Layer 7' and fill it with white color, set the layer style to Dissolve, opacity to 20%, Fill to 20%.

After that right click on Layer 7 and apply 'Color Overlay' using blending option. Keep the settings as shown in the following image.

Duplicate Layer 7 and rename it as 'Later 8'. Right click on this layer and choose blending options. Change 'Color Overlay' settings as shown in the image given below.

Use 'Free Transform'(ctrl T) tool in the toolbar to make the image smaller.

Duplicate 'Layer 9' and rename it as 'Layer 10'.

after that fill it with color #00d8f4.

Next, using 'Smudge Tool' in the toolbar, smudge the 'Layer 10' as shown in following image.

Create one more layer and name it as 'Layer 11'. Draw a circle using marquee tool and fill it with color '#00d8f4'.

Then blur the circle using filter 'Blur'. Keep the settings as shown below.

Select Layer 11 and holding down CTRL key create a new layer, name it as 'Layer 12', Fill Layer 12 with white color.

Using 'Smudge tool', smudge 'Layer 12' as shown in the following image.

After that apply following blending option effect to 'Layer 12'.

Duplicate 'Layer 10' and set the layer style of duplicate layer to Dissolve.

Create a new layer,name it as 'Layer 14'. Draw a circle and fill it with white color.

After that apply 'Blur' filter as shown in the following image.

Create new layer and name it as 'Layer 15', select the area using 'Polygonal lasso tool' as shown in the following image.

Apply 'Clouds' filter to this. (Filter > Render > Clouds)

After that clear the edges using 'Eraser tool' as shown in the following image.

Then set the layer style to 'Color Dodge'.

Duplicate 'Layer 15'.

Set the layer style of duplicate layer to 'Dissolve' and opacity 5%, fill 70%.

Create new layer as 'Layer 17' and draw a path using 'Pen tool'

Right click and select 'Stroke Path'. Keep the settings as shown in the following image.

Repeat Step 19 as many times as you want to draw the rays.

In this step we will add twinkling stars in our universe. For this create a new layer and name it as 'Layer 18'. Now to create a star, take one horizontal and one vertical white line. Erase the corners of the line a little bit to give it a fine touch.

After that select 'Brush' tool and choose blur brush then drop a little dot in the center of the star, as shown in the following image.

Duplicate the layer 18 multiple time and change their sizes as shown in the following image.
