This article is devoted to fans of retro.
A lot of people are fond of old things. Antiquities are popular with good reason. There is even a style in webdesign - called Retro - for lovers of the past. Imitation of the old press-cuttings can come in handy for creating retro style pictures. We will tear, crumple and even scorch the edges of the newspaper in this tutorial, just to get the Retro look.
First you'll need some press-cuttings. Without looking too long I've found a suitable image in Google images.
Open it in PhotoShop. Now choose the appropriate 300x300 px fragment and crop it using the Crop tool (C).
It's too yellow now, so reduce saturation with the Hue-Saturation tool (Ctrl+U).
Next, select an area using the Marquee tool (M). It should be about 275x275 in the middle of the canvas.
Go to quick mask mode (Q). Now, use Filter>Pixelate>Crystallize with the value 15. Then repeat (Ctrl+F).
Now, return to the usual mode (Q), invert the selected area(Ctrl+Shift+I) and click delete. Invert the selection once more (Ctrl+Shift+I).
Now using Marquee tool and pressing Alt take select away the inside part of the newspaper. Leave about 10px borders.
Next use the Paint Daubs filter (Filter>Artistic>Paint Daubs) with the following values:
Create a new layer, choose 13px Soft Brush (B). Set 50% opacity and 50% flow for it. Set the foreground color to #9d8141 and draw over the edges of the paper. Then add the clipping mask to the layer (Ctrl+Alt+G).
Next choose foreground color #3e3318 and draw using the same brush once more but this time closer to the edges.
Then choose foreground color #181409, set brush Opacity at 60% and color some pieces of the paper edges. Here's what I've got:
