As all who have entered the world of internet marketing, or online marketing know, we all need backlinks in order to promote our websites. Backlinking is also knows as Off-page SEO because it is not a technical change you make to your website itself.
Each backlink pointing to your website is counted as a "vote" for your website by the search engines and therefor the more backlinks you have, the more love it will get from the search enginges, thus ranking your website a little bit higher.
So, are all backlinks worth the same? Well, no they are not. There is a thing called pagerank, it's an invention of google to tell you how important a certain website is. The Pagerank (PR) is based on a scale from 0 - 10, 10 being the highest. What this score is based on is an unknown formula that every internet marketer would pay a million to get his or her hands on. If you get pointed to by websites with a high PR, your site will climb faster in the search engines than if it's "voted" on by low PR sites, meaning that backlinks from high PR sites are valued and thus harder to get. There is also people saying that google for instance values backlinks from different domains differently depending on what domain you have. The domain endings with .org, .edu and .gov is said to be valued higher than a .com or .net, wheter this is true I do not know.
I personally live by the saying "A backlink is a backlink" and the more you have, the better it is.
So, how do you get your hands on these backlinks? Well there are manu many ways to do this:
- Blog Commenting
- Forum Posting
- Article Writing (like this article)
- Video Posting
- Link Directories
- Blog Networks
I use 2 of these methods. Article Marketing, where you write an article about a subject, posting a link to a certain website, gaining a "vote" for your website.
The second method is blog networks. A blog network is a collection of blogs that trade content with eachother. You can add your blogs to receive niche content and you can write your own articles with backlinks to your own sites, spreading these links across the blog network.
