Photographers have always been keen to find ways of converting images to black and white or monochrome. There are several different ways in which this can be done, however, one of the best ways that I have come across is to use layer adjustments.

1. Create a 600x600 pix file, white background.
Use your imagination, create a shape that you want with selection tool, fill in #E6E6E6 color.
CTRL+D to deselect
2. Now follow the diagrams below, add layer styles to the shape.

1. Make an 800x600 window with a black background. <br/>2. With your lasso tool make a star kind of shape <br/>3. Then fill the stary shape in white. <br/>4. Then goto FILTER > BLUR > RADIAL BLUR. Set it to 100 - zoom - best Should look like this
