STEP 1: I scanned in a pencil sketch and didn't really bother to clean it up since I will only be using it as reference and it will be coloured over as we go along.

STEP 2: Ok I selected the shoulder pad area on a NEW layer above the pencil drawing using the polygon lasso tool, Then filled it black and added some red shading, I then added a filter. FILTER/ARTISTIC/PLASTIC WRAP I'll show you the settings I used later on, I am not a big fan of filters but I liked this one so I used it extensively throughout this picture.

STEP 3: Now I basically select each bit, fill it, shade it using a large airbrush and a dark colour, filter it, shade it some more and maybe add some hi-lites, but also keeping it quite basic at the moment.

STEP 4: As you can see the pads are on a layer above the torso. Now I keep adding bits and working over it once I have applied the filter to each bit as I go along. Lots of selecting, filling, shading, filtering and more shading is what I do for the next few hours building the picture up bit by bit.

STEP 5: As you can see, the majority of stuff is on the top layer and each part I work on is on the layer below, I then merge them together, this keeps the filesize relatively small. This picture also shows an area selected and being worked on, this style of painting is more suited to a mouse allowing you to control where paint hits by selecting areas, slow and long winded but effective

STEP 6: OK heres the finished picture, I created some box/structures in a Free 3d prog called Strata 3d and rendered them, copied and pasted them into a layer below the dude, then I added the sky, some mist and the water freehand using various sized airbrushes. I also added lots of hi-lights and details to the robodaemon and there you go. I know this tut doesn't explain exactly how I draw stuff, its just meant show you my process and hopefully give you some tips along the way. If you found it useful drop me an Email
