Create a Tribute Poster to Michael Jackson in Photoshop

Img

Step 1

Create a new document with the following settings.

Img

Step 2

Import image it to our document, rotate it 90 and scale it to fill the document.

Img

Step 3

Add an Adjustment layer (Hue/Saturation).

Img

Step 4

Create a new layer, go to Filters - Render and choose the option Coulds. Change the blend mode to Color Dodge.

Img

Before applying the filter, make sure you have the default colors for background and foreground (black and white).

Step 5

Grab this image and import it to the document. What we are about to do is making the outline of the Michael Jackson's body. Select the Pen tool and start making the outline. Then, create a new layer, name it "jackson" and press CMD (Control) + T to scale the path as you wish.

ImgImgImg

Step 6

With the "jackson" layer selected, grab the Brush tool, set its size to around 5px, 100% of hardness and choose color red. Now, on the Paths panel click on the second icon to Stroke Path with Brush. Delete the poster we imported previously.

ImgImg

Step 7

Create a new group under the "jackson" layer and name it "posters". Import some images of Michael Jackson to the document, scale it down, rotate a little bit, add a Drop Shadow on the blending options to each one and drag all images to the new group created.

Step 8

Now let's add some neon light to the outline of Jackson's body. Select the "jackson" layer and duplicate it and hide the original one. Select the new duplicated layer and open the blending option panel. Check the Drop Shadow and Gradient Overlay effects.

ImgImg

Apply a Gaussian Blur filter by clicking Filter - Blur - Gaussian Blur.

Img

Step 9

Above the layer we just edited, create a new group and call it "light" and change the blend mode of the group to Color Dodge. Select the layer we have hidden before and duplicate it again. Drag the new duplicated layer inside to the "light" group. Now apply the following layerstyles.

ImgImgImg

Now apply a Gaussian Blur filter.

Img

Step 10

Duplicate the "jackson copy" layer and move the duplicated layer to under the "jackson copy" layer. Create a new layer, and select both and then press CMD (Control) + E to merge them. Create a new group called "glow" and move the layer into it. Apply a Gaussian Blur Filter too.

Img

Now, the glow is almost invisible. To turn it brighter, duplicate the "layer 1? by pressing CMD (Control) + J some times, till you're satisfied with the result.

Img

Step 11

Select again the invisible "jackson" layer, duplicate and place it on top of all layers, and check Color Overlay on blending options panel

ImgImg

Step 12

Duplicate the layer we last edited and apply a Gaussian Blur filter.

Img

Step 13

Duplicate again the "jackson copy 3? layer and place the new layer on top of all. Apply the following layerstyles.

Step 14

One more detail is missing. Pick up the Text tool and with the Times New Roman font, write Michael Jackson on top of our silhouette with color #00d2ff. Then apply some layerstyles.

ImgImg

Step 15

Duplicate the text layer twice. Create a new group and move one of the duplicated layers into the new group. Change the blend mode of the group to Color Dodge. To the duplicated layer outside the group apply a Gaussian Blue filter (radius around 5px) and the one inside the group apply also a Gaussian Blur (radius around 1px or 2px).

ImgImgImg

Step 16

Add this layerstyle (beyond the Gradient Overlay) to the layer that is inside the group.

ImgImg

Step 17

Add a Drop Shadow on the original text layer beyond the Gradient Overlay.
