Infrared Landscapes


Convert color landscapes into realistic infrared photos.

Open an image to edit.

Change the image mode to Lab Color (Image> Mode> Lab Color).

Select the chroma b channel (Ctrl+3).

With the chroma b channel selected, select the canvas (Ctrl+A) and copy (Ctrl+C).

In the History pallet (Window> History), select the first state when the image was opened.

If the image mode isn't already RGB Color, change the blending mode to RGB Color (Image> Mode> RGB Color).

Paste the clipboard image as a new layer (Ctrl+V).

Apply an Auto Levels (Shift+Ctrl+L).

With the top layer selected, use the Apply Image tool (Image> Apply Image) to apply the following properties:

Layer: Background
Channel: Red
Invert: Unchecked
Blending: Soft Light
Opacity: 100%

Rollover the image to see the original image without this effect applied. To add a magenta colour effect to the image, continue to step 11.

Create two new layers (Shift+Ctrl+N) and fill the layers with a #c34d83 color.

Change the blending mode of the middle layer to Overlay and the opacity of the top layer to 50%.

With the top layer selected, use the Hue/Saturation tool (Ctrl+U) to increase the saturation by 35.
