There are several methods of removing a colour cast from an image and perhaps the simplest is the Auto Color command found under the Image Adjustment menu in Photoshop 7. However there is also a very simple way of removing any colour cast which we can use whilst checking the Levels.
Call up the Levels palette Image > Adjustment > Levels or try shortcut Ctrl+L. We can see from the above Histogram that this image is lacking in pixels in the lighter area. Click on Options button to open the Auto Color Correction Options palette
When this palette opens by default it is set on Enhance Per Channel Contrast - this gives the same result as using Auto Levels.. You will also notice that we now have the full range of pixels in the Levels palette
It is also worth clicking on the Find Dark & Light Colors.. Auto Color.. this will also improve this particular image and once again it's worth seeing how the Histogram changes..
Clicking the Snap Neutral & Midtones button really does make a difference to this image and we can now see some of the more subtle colours.. It is well worth experimenting with the settings under the Algorithms heading as they can greatly improve the quality of our images and remove any colour cast.
The finished image.. roll you cursor over the image to see the change!
