Superb skin airbrush technique

Step 1. Open a photo in Photoshop. In this lesson, try to use images with the high permission where it is possible to see a skin structure.

image 1

Step 2. Make the duplicate of a layer and insert it into group. To make it, press Ctrl + J to duplicate a layer, and then Ctrl + G to place a new layer in group. Group the layer "Blur" is named "Airbrush", and. "Blur" we will use a layer for skin degradation. Then, we will add one more layer to restore a natural structure of a skin.

image 2

Step 3.

Choose a layer "Blur". To wash away this layer, we use filter Surface Blur. This filter is similar on Gaussian Blur, distinction consists that it leaves borders more detailed. We should wash away a layer so that the skin was smoothed, but without the greased edges.

image 3

Here so my image after filter Surface Blur application looks. Your image should look similar to mine, eye details should not be mentioned.

image 4

Step 4. Create a new layer and place it over a layer with degradation. We name this layer "Texture" and we will change a mixing mode on Hard Light. This layer will be used to add structures on a skin, and also to adjust a skin tonality.

image 5

The structure created in this layer, on the definitive image practically it will not be visible. It can be made out if only to apply the big increase. But, despite it the skin will not look too smooth or as though from plastic. The example of the received result is more low resulted.

image 6

Step 5. Be convinced that at you the layer "Texture" is chosen. Press Shift+F5 or go to menu Edit> Fill. Put tool Fill options as on a picture more low.

image 7

Step 6. Further we go to menu Filter> Noise. Thereby you will add a few noise on the image that will allow to avoid "effect of a skin from plasti". After application of the filter the image can look very sharp, but on a following step we will correct it, having applied filter Gaussian Blur.

image 8

Step 7. We go to menu Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur. Degradation radius we put 1pixel.

image 9

Step 8. Now we take the sample of colour from this layer. At first choose tool Eye Dropper. Will choose the sample of colour of a skin who seems to you more suitable, you can be not so exact as definitively adjust colour we will further in a lesson. In a palette of colours Color press a small triangle in a mug and in the emerging menu choose HSB sliders. We should see HSB values for a following step.

image 10

Step 9. Open panel Hue/Saturation having pressed Ctrl+U or go to menu Image> Adjustments> Hue/Saturation. Put tick Colorize and check up parameters Hue, Saturation and Lightness that they coincided with parameters HSB from the top step.

image 11

Step 10. Choose group "Airbrush" on the panel of layers further we go to menu Layer> Layer Mask> Hide All. Thereby we will create a layer mask filled with black colour which will hide all group. In this mask of a layer we will draw areas in which we wish to add a retouch.

image 12

Step 11. And now, press-D on the keyboard to establish colour of a background by default black and white. Choose the tool the Brush and with following options:

image 13

Increase the image to 100 % and paint over a skin. Do not worry, if tone of a skin to you seems to the wrong. It occurs because we have not chosen correct colour when we used Hue/Saturation with a shade on layer Texture as at once it is very difficult for making. To correct result we will come later. Use following hotkey's to change the size of a brush and hardness: • Reduction of the size of a brush: [ • Increase in the size of a brush:] • To Reduce softness of a brush by 25 %: Shift + [ • To Increase softness of a brush by 25 %: Shift +].

image 14

In those places where you painted over a skin your mask of a layer should have areas of white colour, and the skin to look smooth:

image 15

Step 12. Now we are going to correct back colour and a skin tone as we and spoke earlier in this lesson. Choose a layer "Texture" and press Ctrl + U for access to tool Hue / Saturation. Change options to receive natural tone of a skin.

In Hue options as a rule the correct. I have increased it by 10 units, having added a yellow shade, thereby having reduced red areas.

Options Saturation usually to have to reduce considerably. Adjust this parameter until then while the skin shade will not look it natural, but is not too pale.

Lightness opposite, demands minor alterations when you will regulate it, you will see as this parameter is sensitive. If this parameter is adjusted correctly the image will look it more natural.

image 16

Step 13. Now we will restore skin details, we go to menu Image> Apply Image. In the appeared window put following options:

image 17

We have added the data of the red channel since in it the skin looks more perfect. On a picture more low you can see distinctions of channels:

image 18

Definitive results.

Here you see definitive result after application of techniques of the aerocount.

image 19

Changing image scale, you will notice that small roughnesses of a skin are still visible. Even at the right bottom image the received result looks naturally because of layer Texture, without this layer the image would look as monophonic colour without noise.

I'm graduating from mason gross school of the arts in graphic design. please: for the love of god go find another tutorial for this is horrendous. photoshopping a picture should not distort the skin so much as it does here. as said in the other comments this is over done. you're losing valuable information that needs to be read in the picture. just under the nose inbetween the nostrils and the bridge of the nose is now so light you are losing its definition, and therefore its credibility. overall the face is now too light. i hate to say it but this is a bad shop- ive seen (and done) plenty mys

This makes me sick. If we want people to look like dolls, we would BUY a doll. Enough of this bullshit retouching and editing. Photoshop killed my daughter.

This is exactly the sort of tutorial people SHOULDN'T be reading. If you want skin that looks like a plastic doll's, go use Picnik or some other one-touch editor, and leave professional retouching to... well... professionals.
