Here we'll create a wooden woman.
1) Get two images, here i use a picture of a woman and a picture of wood(the wood is not that good, but oh well,i wanted to make it pretty quick)

2) Bring both of the images in photoshop, open a pretty big new file, transparent.
move both of the images in that file.Be sure that both images are RGB mode,if not go to image>mode>RGB. The wood on another layer and the picture of the wood in another. Tranform the pictures so as to be the same size. Bring the wood on top of the woman.Click the eye button to make the wood layer inbisible.
3)Double click the quick mask,it's a little button on the left/bottom side, see above image. Select, the "selected areas". Then draw over the face of the woman, where you want the wood to appear.
see below

4)Exit quick mask by click the button next to the quick mask
5)Go to layer>add layer mask>reveal as selection

6)Select,from the blending options(drop down menu on the bottom right corner it has normal) what fits best to your image,i selected overlay.

If there are some places you would like to clean up,select the wood mask and clean by using the brush, white puts more wooden areas, black color cleans up/appears areas.
7)Play a bit with the opacity of the woman layer
And here is a wooden woman lol

If the image of the wood was a better one,you would see a better result.
*There are some other tricks that you can do so as the effect to be more realistic,i'll post another tut, when i habe more time and better images.
I think you get the idea of what the quick mask do though so...
Hope this will be useful to someone.
