Step 1:
Open your photo (File > Open or using keyboard shortcut Ctrl+O)
A good photo would be one that its lack of texture. For this tutorial I chose this silver car:
Step 2:
You will need your desired texture for this part. Textures can be easily found on search engines. Of course texture containing a pattern is not a must, you can blend each photo you want as your texture. I for example chose this texture:
And now to some actual work, make a new layer (Layer > New > Layer or keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + N). Paste your texture into the new layer and go to the layer style menu (Layer > Layer Style > Blending options or by double clicking the layer in the layer window). What you will need to do here is change the underlying layer attributes under the "Blend if" sub menu as you see in the following picture:
As you may see while trying, when you pull the little white and black triangles, they move as a single piece. To cut each triangle to a half, simply hold down your ALT key and drug the triangle. The values I used are only a suggestion, each photo and each texture will require different values.
Step 3:
This step is basically just finalizing your work. My result is:
What I did was to duplicate the texture layer (Layer > new > Layer via copy or keyboard shortcut Ctrl+J) to make the texture's colors stronger and more attractive. Also, I deleted (from the texture layer) parts that I don't want to get blend such as the windows and the car lights.
Hope you enjoyed this powerful yet simple Photoshop trick
