Reduce Noise With a New Tool in Photoshop CS2 (Exclusive Tutorial)

Sometimes you can't make a good shot because of the lack of light or poor quality of your camera. In most such cases you'll get a "noisy" picture. This tutorial will teach you how to remove this noise.

1. Open an image where you want the noise to be reduced.

2. Go to Filter > Noise > Reduce Noise…

3. Zoom your image to about 300% to better see the results of your actions.

4. Depending on the noise amount and type, move the scrollers until you get the desired result.

The value "Strength" allows you to specify how much noise removal you are applying. (I used 10)

The "Preserve Details" value allows you to preserve or eliminate the details inside the image. This will also affect edges of your image. (I used 5%)

There is also a separate control over the color noise – the "Reduce Color Noise" scroller. (I used 65%)

You also have an after-noise-removal sharpening control – "Sharpen Details". (I left 0%)

And, finally, the "Remove JPEG Artifact" option allows you to remove some problems with JPEG Artifacts inside your image if there's a lot of JPEG compression going on. (I left unchecked)

Note: clicking the preview will show you the "before" view of the image.
